Dear Colleague,

On behalf of the Centre of Excellence in New Target Discovery and SPARK-Brazil Program it is a great pleasure to announce the 2nd International Symposium on Drug Discovery in Academia (ISDDA 2018).
The primary goal of this symposium is to provide a forum for timely discussion of the latest findings from leaders in the field of drug discovery and development. As a result, we hope the symposium will foster new ideas and collaborations to accelerate translation. Attendees will hear state-of- art presentations on a broad array of topics, including target identification, high-throughput screen, translating basic research into clinics, academia- industry partnerships and project management. Invited speakers represent world reference institutions in Drug Discovery and Development, including Stanford University and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), as we further broaden our international scope and partnerships.
The planned agenda includes 2 fast-paced sessions during 1 day, set in a forum that promotes the relaxed exchange and discussion of cutting edge research in drug discovery and development.
I hope you will find the symposium an educational experience and a great opportunity to network with scientists from around the world who are dedicated to building healthier lives.

Join us!

 Speakers & Round Table Participants

Daniela B. Trivella (Laboratório Nacional de Biociências -LNBio)

Daniela B B Trivella is graduated in Biology (1999-2003) with Master degree in Biotechnology (2004-2006) both from the Federal University of Santa Catarina-BR. She got her PhD in Biomolecular Physics from the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo-BR (2006-2010). She was a post-doctoral associate researcher at the Institute of Chemistry of the University of Campinas-BR (2010-2012), at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography of the University of California at San Diego-USA (2012) and at the Cell Signaling Group of the University of Nottingham-UK (2015-2016). Since 2013 she develops scientific research at LNBio-CNPEM, focused on natural product drug discovery and structural biology. She was the coordinator of the LNBio’s Chemistry and Natural Product Laboratory (2017) and is currently the LNBio’s head of research.

Isro Gloger (UK - GlaxoSmithKline)

Director Trust in science, GlaxoSmithKline. Trust in Science is an initiative created by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in 2011. The main objective of it is to engage and foster scientific interactions between top academic research institutions in Latin America and GSK scientists in order to find novel medicines to address critical medical needs in relevant diseases.

Julio Martin (Spain - GlaxoSmithKline)

I am currently working at the Kinetoplastid Discovery Performance Unit of GSK R&D at Tres Cantos (Spain). Our remit is to discover and develop new chemical entities for the treatment of human diseases caused by kinetoplastid parasites such as Leishmania and Trypanosoma. Our strategy is based on open innovation and collaborative research. Formerly, I have been responsible of ultra-HTS campaigns from screen development to dose-response and preliminary SAR. Likewise, I have been engaged in the development and implementation of new statistical tools and assay technologies for the improvement of HTS efficiency. I have explored label-free technologies for the screening of small molecules in protein and cellular assays in a joint collaboration with external companies. I hold a PhD degree in Biochemistry from University of Madrid, where I acquired background and expertise on protein chemistry and enzymology. Prior to my current position, I worked at the R&D Department of Glaxo, where I managed programmes for discovery of new antimicrobial leads.

Daria Mochly-Rosen (Stanford University)

Protein chemist, professor at Stanford University; Founder and co-director of SPARK, the translational research program at Stanford University School of Medicine; President Founder, SPARKGLOBAL

Emer Suavino Ferro (ICB-USP)

PhD, Emer Suavinho Ferroin Molecular Biology from Paulista Medical School (Unifesp, 1993). Postdoctoral experiences from Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1995), Mount Sinai School of Medicine (1995-1996), New York, USA, and Department of Physiology and Biophysics of the Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICB, USP, SP, 1996). Currently is Full Professor, Department of Pharmacology of ICB, USP and head of Laboratory of Intracellular Peptides Pharmacology, which main goal is the discovery and characterization of new peptide-based drugs.
